Holdbacks in jeopardy

If society doesn't set a standard you have some parents who wouldn't send their kids to school period. Now, is that what you want? Society/Government has to set some type of standard or your left in anarchy.

So who sets the standards.

Your taking this way to personal. You just opened up what many will not say.

It's about what all want. Not a few. That is the problem in our society.

It's about what those with influence can buy. Not always what is right.

This isn't against you PVFAN. But you nailed it. It's about society and what those in that society want or don't want.

To me the question on holdbacks ends with setting a age limit period.

How simple is that and how hard to check on. As simple as a birth certificate. Which anyone entering any school has to have to play sports.

I'm not taking it personal at all, I just think that government/society has to set up some standard. If I remember correctly you were trying wanting people to go to the school board meeting last year to get people to promote holding back.

No i just wanted people to be interested in what was going on as far as their schools.

As far as holding back i have no real ideas on it.
Other than the one me and my son made reguarding his situation.

I didn't feel my son was ready at 17 to graduate.
So me and him together made the decision, he would hold back.

Other than that.
That is all i have said on here. That i can see both sides, but i leave it up to the kid and the parents.

But if some want it eliminated, an age limit requirement, is the true answer.
It stops it once and for all. And there is no exceptions, even a medical is hard to get.
And verification is as easy as the birth certificate.

No Gate City didnt invent it. When I played in the LPD in late 70's, Kelly was doing it with baseball then and I didnt go to Gate City. Gate City had several in last years graduating class(still single digits) but currently I bet there's less than 5. Just curious, how many does Burton & Kelly have on their baseball teams this year? We have 0. The steps being taken will help alot, but like has been said, people will start holding their kids back in the 7th grade. To eliminate it altogether, it will take more drastic measures. If thats even possible. I know of alot of parents that just let their child go to Kindergarden 2 years. This doesnt get mentioned very often, but this is probably the most widely used way of holding a child back, not the 8th grade.

18 is classified as an adult, are we going to have to set the limit at 18 instead? Its not that big of a deal IMO, and RC has very few holdbacks. Only about 5 that I can ever think of, while SP, and TS have done it religiously through the years in the Cumberland.

If I am not mistaken Travis Turner was a holdback. My junior year was his senior year when we met in the regional finals. I was a 16 year old JR, and he was a 19 year old SR. Does it make a difference? Yes, sometimes, but not always. A kid is either going to be talent or he/she isn't. Plus, we are talking about team sports, not individual sports anyway. If you want age limits, play AAU.

Still don't make any difference when they start them. The age requirement stops it. Even if you make it 18 for a person starting at a certain age.
What your looking at is taking away all options. That is what age requirement is all about.

You simple make it an age requirement. Just like the issue Dad is talking about.
An age for all kids to meet certain requirements. If they don't academically, they don't, but sports wise they will not play a highschool sport, past the age of 18.

No kids will play against and adult. A person we consider an adult, and we can send off to war at 18. In a nation that at 18 you can go to war. But not buy a cigrette or drink a beer. But your considered old enough to go to war. Hmm. A fair society we have.

honestly, why hate holdbacks...are they just too good. i mean EVERYONE has a chance to hold back.

To me i don't care. But to some it's taboo.

Honestly as i have said on here. It's between a child and a parent.

But that is taboo.
So to make it taboo. The way to eliminate it is. An age requirement. So far no one can find a reason this will not work nationwide. Yet there is no one replying why it won't work.

Pro or con. I am just tired of hearing it. Once and for all there is an answer. Age requirement. See no one has made a reply that it won't work. So maybe i am on to something.

As far as me. I held my son back.

I knew at 17 he wasn't ready to hit the world.

We wasn't in Iraq at the time. But no he wasnt' headed there as an 18 yr old adult, that can vote, but not drink or smoke in the country he would defend.

If you hold back before you start kindergarten, fine and dandy. If you repeat a grade, waste of taxpayer's money and teacher's time!
